Granturismo front subframe rust

2012 Maserati

Unknown Issue

Miles: 50,000
Date of First Occurrence (D/M/Y): 01/10/2021
DTC Codes (if any):
Parts List:
Approximate Cost to Fix: $10,000

Description of Issue:

2012 Maserati GranTurismo. The GranTurismo and Quattroporte share the same issue with rust on the front subframe. The front subframe support point for the control arms is designed with a “V” shape that allows water to collect there, and will rust through, causing the front subframe to rust from the inside out.

Resolution if Known:

The repair is costly,  ~$10K. However, this can be prevented with early intervention by introducing rust prevention coating materials on a 3/4 year cycle in salt prone locations. It is still advised in southern climates. Mine is a Florida car and was noticed in its 8 year birthday.
