Dear Dan,

When I was a kid in grade school, I had a friend named Robert Parker who frequently bragged about the fact that his dad owned a Ferrari. We were envious every time he mentioned it and sometimes it seemed like he would bring it up 2 or more times a week. Since it was the early 80s, the only form that we ever saw a Ferrari was in the shape of a little hot wheels car, typically a 288 GTO or a 308 “Magnum” Car. Then one day Robert had a birthday party that I was invited to and when I arrived at his house, we all saw the beautiful 308 that was parked in the driveway which pulled all the kids in like a magnet and affirmed that he was telling the truth (yes, we doubted him at one point). The car was unlike anything that we had ever seen on the road with it’s beautiful red rosso corsa color. After about five minutes all the kids went inside while I stayed a few more minutes trying to peer in the back of the car to get a glimpse of the engine. Robert’s dad noticed my deeper interest and asked me if I would like to go for a ride and my immediate response was “hell yeah!”. So, he took me for a little spin, punched the gas at several points to make the engine sing, and at that point, at just 11 years of age, I WAS MESMERIZED. I made a lifelong personal dream to own a Ferrari.

Several years passed while I made my way working and building up my business, got married to my wonderful wife, and settled down where we are right now in our lives. Being that I was a big VW guy (which I own several of), I never really made it a point to pursue the ownership of a Ferrari, but my wife knew that I really wanted one bad since I brought it up several times throughout our relationship. She was all on board for me to purchase one and we even stopped off at the dealership to look, but unfortunately never made it inside since it was 5 minutes to closing (the receptionist actually closed the door in my face as I was making my way to the front door!) and I figured that it was not meant to be at that time.

One day, while watching some Youtube videos of supercars crashing/failing, I came across your channel and watched an episode… and then another… and then one more… I was hooked! I specifically remember the video where you had purchased your 458 and the narrative that you offered about the Apple Bluetooth linkup. At this point, my wife noticed that I watch your videos all the time and even would make comments asking me if I got my daily dose of “Dan”. My wife is no stranger to nice cars and always has the most top notch BMW in lease. Once her lease came up (where she wanted to pick up an m850i convertible), she protested and said that she is not going to get another nice car unless I buy my Ferrari… she exclaimed that “if Dan has one, you could have one too, I mean, he is a ‘Normal Guy’ with a Supercar! You need to stop being cheap and daydreaming, you could afford it!” I thought that she was being facetious, but was in fact genuine about her statement. Her words of encouragement set me on the path to find my 458 Spider in rosso corsa (I specifically was looking for a 2015 model since I wanted something with low miles and the issues worked out).  I found what I was looking for at a consignment dealership in Oceanside, test drove the car (which made me lust for it even more), made the deal, and purchased the car. My dream was a reality and now I have opened up a can of Ferrari fever like you would not imagine! I put a deposit on a new F8 Spider which I hope to take delivery of within the next 1 to 2 years! I am going to keep my 458… this car is going nowhere!

Thank you Dan for the awesome videos and the encouragement!

Always,

Fred
