Part 3 of the Ferrari 348 DIY Major Engine Out Service. The Ferrari 348 requires the engine to be pulled every 3-5 years or 25,000 miles to replace the timing belts. Usually this also entails replacing many other components such as the tensioners, water pump, bearings, and pulleys. Typically this service starts at around $10,000 at most reputable shops, and can easily cost upwards of $25,000. We are going full bore and replacing almost everything that can wear so the engine will be almost as good as new and give Tim many years of use.
In Part 3, we get to finally remove the engine from Tim’s Ferrari 348! Unlike many other cars, with Ferraris you typically remove the engine by dropping it out from the bottom of the car, and literally life the car off from the engine. Because the cars were designed for this engine out major service to be performed regularly, it’s not too difficult but does require some patience.
Now that the engine is out, we will start to take the engine apart and remove the old belts. Stay tuned for that in Part 4!
